International Wool Textile Organization (IWTO) held its annual congress in the Egyptian capital of Cairo on May 9-12,2006.
Main theme of the congress has been "Winning Strategies for the Customer-focused Wool and Textile Enterprise". The congress has attracted participants and experts from all stages of the international wool and textile pipeline. New ideas have been developed through various projects, presentations and events for the wool industry.
Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif, IWTO President Michael Lempriere and The Oriental Weavers CEO Farid Khamis, on behalf of the Egyptian National Committee, attended the opening ceremony. The Egyptian Prime Minister's participation at the opening indicates the emphasis the Egyptian government puts on the textile industry.
IWTO President Mr. Lempriere at his speech said "although we have seen some improved commercial activity, it has unfortunately been insufficient to absorb the larger volumes offered in the primary markets. With buyers now generally more disciplined than sellers, we have seen this inexorable ratcheting down of price levels for raw wool over more than three years".

Halit Narin, President of the Textile Industry Employers Union of Turkey (TUTSiS), reacted to the imports carried out unjustly. Having stated that the inflation was stuck to some 8 percent, Narin declared: "What lies at the roots of this is, unfortunately, as I already pointed out with my fellows for years and years, the still lacking supervision over, and systemic approach to, import profitability and tax as duly established." Narin who demanded inspection of imports, asked: "Why don't these firms who carry out imports worth of 50-60 billion US Dollars appear in tax lists?" Narin, who answered to the questions of ilknur Ertugay on the "Business Day" program on TRT-2 Television he participated on 4th May, commented on the decrease in the textile and ready-to-wear clothing exports during April by indicating: "Actually this is not a decrease. Since VAT has been reduced, the figures of the fictitiously carried out exports cannot be made any more." Having pointed out that the economy needs to be estructured, Narin said: "Indeed, in an environment where the banking sector seizes all the advantages and turns profit by making exorbitant gains, talks of a decline in economy have started and we are stuck to 8 percent inflation. What lies at the roots of this is, unfortunately, as I already pointed out with my fellows for years and years, the still lacking supervision over import profitability and tax as duly established. Turkey makes substantial imports. However, in spite of such major imports, we cannot see any firms of import other than the banking sector and some 100 well-known firms."

The TUTSiS management presided by Halit Narin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of our Union, was in Thrace last month within the scope of the distribution project of which the first phase has already been completed. On 20th April, the inaugurations of the 'Information Technology Classrooms" were held in TOBB High School in Kirklareli and 80. Yil Cumhuriyet Anatolian High School in Edirne.
Halit Narin, President f TUTSiS, who spoke during the ceremonies, stated that the greatest investment was launched not in factories, but in students. Having expressed that everything they were doing was for children, Narin said: "The future of this country needs a youth who willshare the logic of one homeland, one nation and one flag. As the Board of Directors of TUTSiS, we have thought of launching our investments in a stronger place in economy by competing against China and Europe, with the people we employ and using the means in hand. We have believed that that investment will be the computers which we will be presenting to you. Our greatest investment is one which is even greater and more important than our factories, that is, you, the future of Turkey. Therefore, the investment we have made in you is the greatest investment causing the most pride as ever launched by us, the industrialists. Sadik Oguz, Co-president of TUTSiS, on the other hand, emphasized that there would remain no school without a computer, and issued to the managers of the schools where computers are distributed the call of "Have the computers used."
