WE ATTRACTED GREAT INTEREST AT PREMIER VISION
Turkish textiles and apparel manufacturers continue to attract interest at international fairs. Turkish companies had already filled up the stands in January at fairs such as Heimtextil, Domotex and Pitti Uomo; this time, the companies made an impressive showing at Premier Vision. The Turkish companies participating in the PremierVision Fairin Paris, France through February 14-16, 2012 attracted great interest despite the crisis. Also attending the fair was a delegation from the Turkish Textile Employers' Association headed by Association President Halit Narin. Stands were set up by Association members Akın Tekstil, Altınyıldız, Bahariye Mensucat, Bossa, İpekiş, Karma Kokteyl Örme, Söktaş, Tüp Merserize and Yünsa.
It was striking to note that there were increases in the numbers of companies participating in the fair—a 48 percent increase from China, an 18 percent increase from Turkey, and an 8.5 percent increase from Brazil. It was also seen that European players had limited participation at the fair due to the crisis. This was reflected in attendance figures—there was a 12 percent decrease in the number of companies from Italy and a 14 percent drop in Belgian companies. During their short visit to the ITKIB (Istanbul Textiles and Apparel Exporters Association) stand at the fair, the Turkish Textile Employers' Association delegation also had the opportunity to get together with Eurocoton President Benoit Hacot and Eurocoton Honorary President Jean François Gribomont to discuss the future of textiles in Europe. Evaluating their experiences after the fair, the Turkish companies agreed that the fairhad been very successful, attracting a great deal of interest despite the apprehensions over the crisis in Europe. It was concluded that if this interest were reflected in the orders placed, the future would look much brighter.
