TURKEY BECOMES A FASHION CENTER |
 Three separate events in the Turkish textiles and apparel sector have brought Turkey one-step closer to the target of becoming a center of fashion. The Istanbul Fashion Week (IFW) event, the window of the Turkish fashion industry opening out into the world, took place from 8-11 February 2012 in the IFW tent set up in Tepebaşı, Istanbul. This year's Istanbul Fashion Week is the third time Istanbul has been in the fashion spotlight, the first was in 2010. IFW was held simultaneously with Première İstanbul (CPI) at Tepebaşı, Istanbul on February 8-11.
Twenty-two designers and 5 brands participated in Fashion Week, and it was the famous designer Gamze Saraçoğlu who opened the event. Among the designers represented on the podium were names widely known in the fashion world -Atıl Kutoğlu, Erol Albayrak, Tuvana Büyükçınar, Günseli Türkay, Zeynep Erdoğan, Özlem Kaya, Simay Bülbül. Meanwhile, the largest fashion showcase of the Turkish apparel industry, the CPI Fair, took place on February 9-11 and brought the sector's professionals together. Visitors to the Fair amounted to a total of 15,286 professionals, 3552 of which were foreign participants. It is estimated that the buyers coming to CPI placed approximately 450 million dollars' worth of orders with the participating companies represented at the event. The last event in February was Europe's largest fair in its category, the "IF Wedding Fashion İzmir-6th Bridal Gowns, Wedding Suits and Evening Gowns Fair" held on February 15-18. There were 188 companies participating and the gala fashion show at the fair exhibited the works of designer Özlem Süer. Enjoying a visitor count of fifteen thousand, the fair provided companies the opportunity to establish important business connections.
